'bee's wing//proto.1.0'
This guitar is a prototype for my new lattice system which I call the "Bee's Wing" Lattice. This new design is inspired by the shape of a bee's wing and has some similarities to the Byers Lattice design. My mentor, Stephen Hill, is pretty well known for his lattice system and I have a lot of experience with that. It is a great system but it has always been important to me to do things differently than others so I wanted my own lattice system to be quite different than his.
This new model aims to offer the qualities one would expect from a lattice guitar while maintaining as much beauty and colour as a traditional fan-braced guitar as possible. There is certainly a lot of room for development and to improve the sound and I look forward to refining this system over the years. I already have a lot of changes in mind to make the next one better.
There is still work to be done to refine the bracing system, but for a first step, I am pretty pleased with it.
The body resonance is between F and F# and it weighs 1477g with machine head, bones, and strings. When designing my lattice system, it was important to me to try and achieve a lower body resonance, as I find many modernly constructed guitars have a pitch that is too high and the end result is a sound that is nasal and harsh.
Since it is a prototype not intended for sale, I went with a real minimalist aesthetic vibe which I am really a fan of at the end. I also did a one day oil finish using danish oil because why not?
I am now accepting orders for lattice braced guitars in this style. Let me know if you are interested!
